Arvonia Solar Project
We envision a future where renewable energy powers our communities, reducing our reliance on foreign energy sources and minimizing the environmental impact.
Arvonia Solar is a proposed 80 MWac solar project, which will be located on a timber tract in New Canton, Buckingham County, Virginia. Arvonia will be sited on approximately 600 acres of the 1072 acres (or 55% of the overall site), thus further reducing its impact and providing for environmental and wildlife corridors.
Through generating clean electricity, Arvonia Solar aims to meet the Commonwealth of Virginia's clean energy goals. It works simultaneously towards nurturing soils, reducing carbon emissions, improving air quality, establishing new pollinator habitats, and growing the local economy.
About the project
Project Specifications
Project size of 80 MWac located in Buckingham County under A1 Zoning.
Spread across 1072 Acres (657 acres owned, 415 acres leased) with nearly 600 acres under solar panels.
The project is 0.75 miles from the existing transmission lines and substation; no additional lines are needed.
Setbacks considered: 50 ft from all wetlands and flood zones and 75 ft from the property boundary.
Ensures minimal visibility by protecting the existing mature timber and vegetation around the site's perimeter, which will protect the existing viewshed.
No audible noise outside the fence line further places the project in harmony with the surrounding environment..
Timeline*
The development of utility-scale solar projects is a long and complex process involving various environmental, wildlife, engineering, land use, cultural, and historical studies while coordinating with county and state agencies. Carefully sited at the outset and planned for the long-term, Arvonia Solar aims to begin construction in early 2027 - estimated to take ~12 months - and the project would start commercial operation in early 2028.
